Come join our team as a Resource Team Assistant (Mental Health Assistant) and help Educational Opportunities for Children and Families (EOCF) realize a common mission by providing support services to content area specialists on the Resource Team, as well as supporting the implementation of developmentally appropriate early childhood education practices for children enrolled in EOCF programs. This benefited position is budgeted for 1832 hours/229 days per year with a starting salary of $13.51.

AA in field related to Human Development or Early Childhood Education -OR- High School diploma plus four years experience in addition to the experience requirement below.


Two years experience working with groups of children 0 to 5 years of age in an early childhood setting. Developmental screening experience. Two years data base/entry experience. Bi-lingual highly desired.

Knowledge of:

  1. Principles of normal and abnormal child development.
  2. Developmentally appropriate practices and child guidance techniques for 0 to 5 year old children.
  3. Computer word processing, data entry, scanning and file maintenance, and spreadsheet programs. 
  4. Safety issues for children and adults.
  5. Office practices, procedures and equipment.
  6. Child immunization schedule and the ability to identify child immunization compliance.

Ability to:

  1. Communicate effectively with children and families from varying cultural, educational, socio-economic background.
  2. Work cooperatively with staff members and clients from diverse cultural, socio-economic and educational backgrounds and provide services as needed or requested to ensure program requirements are met 
  3. Maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  4. Use the team approach to resolving problems or conflicts.
  5. Demonstrate professional and effective written and verbal communication skills; receive information and feedback in an understanding manner; use good judgment.
  6. Work independently and demonstrate flexibility to changes in work schedules and assignments.
  7. Attend appropriate staff meetings and out-of-town training sessions as assigned and provide training to staff at EOCF sites as needed. 

Key Performance Area: Mental Health/Behavior Support Assistance (MENTAL HEALTH/BEHAVIOR SUPPORT)

Have a knowledge of "Positive Behavior Intervention Supports" (PBIS).

Be able to work together with the Mental Health Consultant to help develop classroom plans for challenging children.

Support Education Staff with children with specific challenging behaviors, who require a oneon one shadow as directed by the Mental Health Supervisor, and/or the Associate Director of Child and Family Services.

Be available to work with Education Staff to help develop strategies for Behavior Support Plans.

Be the direct communication for Behavior Incident Reports with Child and Family Services Supervisors.

Accept responsibility for seeking assistance and guidance when needed; incorporate constructive direction from supervisor to improve job performance.

Accept responsibility for the quality of job performance, and make changes as needed.

Key Performance Area: Communications

Assure continuous and timely flow of verbal and written information to and from other staff, supervisor, program participants, and community.

Conduct all communication with staff, supervisor, program participants, and community in an effective, respectful, timely, and supportive manner.

Prepare and provide timely and accurate written and data-based reports, memoranda and other statistical and narrative information as required or requested.

Maintain organized and accessible record keeping and filing system.

Serve as advocate for EOCF and its families in the community.

Maintain confidentiality of program, staff and client information.
