Come join our Head Start Team as a Substitute Bus Driver, supporting Educational Opportunities for Children & Families realize a common mission by providing safe, timely, and efficient transportation for staff, children and families served by EOCF. This is a non-benefited, ON-CALL position, with a starting wage of $18.77 per hour.

Education: High school diploma/equivalent.

Experience: One year experience in public or student transportation is preferred. Past or current EOCF-served parents may use documented volunteer service as experience.

*** Bi-lingual skills highly desired (Spanish - English).

Certification and Other Requirements

Commercial Drivers License (CDL) class "C" or better with passenger and schoolbus endorsements (must be obtained within 90 days of employment). This includes meeting all Washington State Department of Transportation physical requirements as stipulated in Section 391.41 of the Commercial Drivers Manual.

Valid First Aid and CPR cards.

Valid Oregon or Washington State driver's license, a record of no DWI convictions or other violations which have resulted in the suspension or revocation of a driver's license in the preceding three years, and proof of automobile insurance as mandated by Washington State law.

Ready access to a personal, legally licensed motor vehicle.

Completion of EOCF's in-service driver training program.

Submit to finger printing and criminal history background check.

Pass a pre-employment health screening indicating freedom from communicable diseases, and an annual health checkup indicating freedom from communicable diseases.

Pass pre-employment drug screening, and subsequent random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug and alcohol screenings as required by federal law.

Commit to EOCF's drug-free work place policy.

Knowledge of:

Federal and State laws, regulations, codes, policies and procedures regarding school bus safety operation.

Principles of young child, individual and group, management in a school bus environment.

Basic rules and principles of grammar, written and verbal communication, and mathematics.

Ability to:

Operate a type A school bus.

Construct, revise and maintain bus routes.

Manage children, ages three to five, in a school bus, utilizing the assistance of parents and bus monitor as appropriate.

Work independently and make sound decisions (according to agency policies, state & federal laws and regulations), meet deadlines and work effectively under stressful or emergent conditions.

Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness as work demands shift; may be asked to work any day of the work week.

Maintain confidentiality of records and information.

Work cooperatively with other staff members and with clients from diverse cultural, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.

Use the team approach to resolving problems or conflicts.

Demonstrate professional and effective verbal communication skills; receive information and feedback in an understanding manner; use good judgment.

Attend appropriate staff meetings and out-of-town training sessions as assigned.

Interact and communicate effectively with groups of parents and children while under a tight time schedule.

Demonstrate effective leadership at all times while on bus route.
