Come be a part of our team as a Teacher's Assistant by supporting Educational Opportunities for Children & Families (EOCF) in realizing a common mission. In this role you will assist the Teacher provide and implement a developmentally appropriate early childhood education experience for children enrolled in Head Start and ECEAP programs.

This benefited position is budgeted for 1800 hours/225 days per year, scheduled to work approximately 40 hours per week.

Required Education: Enrolled in program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree or Enrolled in a child development associate credential program to be completed within two (2) years.

Preferred Education: Certificate of proficiency in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or current CDA certificate.

Experience: One year experience with groups of children 3 to 5 years of age in an early childhood setting.

*** Bi-lingual highly desired. Training plan considered depending on qualifications.

Knowledge of:
1. Developmentally appropriate practices for 3 to 5 year old children.
2. Principles of child development and Early Childhood Curriculum planning.
3. Safety issues for children and adults.

Ability to:
1. Implement established child development practices, principles and performance standards in a comprehensive classroom environment.
2. Adopt EOCF's commitment to supporting and strengthening children and families.
3. Work cooperatively with staff members and clients from diverse cultural, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
4. Prepare and manage records, reports and other documents as required.
5. Maintain confidentiality of records and information.
6. Use the team approach to resolving problems or conflicts.
7. Demonstrate professional and effective written and verbal communication skills; receive information and feedback in an understanding manner; use good judgment.
8. Attend appropriate staff meetings and out-of-town training sessions as assigned.

Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.

Practice established principles of safety in environment for young children.

Assist in developing and implementing activities that promote good health habits and integrate the health and nutrition components into the classroom.

Clean facility daily as assigned.

Assist teacher in providing a classroom program that builds and strengthens positive self-concepts and individual strengths of children.

Provide positive, supportive responses to all children.

Assist in incorporating mental health activities in the classroom.

Encourage children to develop positive attitudes towards a variety of ethnic, racial and social groups.

Encourage children to develop inner-control by providing positive guidance and discipline.

Assist in planning and implementing curriculum that encourages the advancement of children's physical, intellectual, and social-emotional competence.

Demonstrate familiarity with accepted principles of early childhood development.

Assist with screening, observing and recording children's behavior.

Assist the teacher in implementing individual goals for each child.

Alert the teacher to special needs of children.

Assist in developing lesson plans.

Support family involvement in the program.

Demonstrate respect for diversity.

Coordinate with parent volunteers in the classroom.

Maintain effective communication with parents.

Make home visits as assigned by the teacher.

Work as a team with the family advocates(s) and parents to plan, implement and attend monthly parent center committee meetings.

Ensure the program operates in response to performance standards, agency policies and participant's needs.

Assist the teacher in evaluating the total classroom program regularly to improve quality.

Assist in preparing required records and reports accurately and promptly.

Manage the classroom program in Teacher's absence.

Assure continuous and timely flow of verbal and written information to and from other staff, supervisor, program participants, and community.

Conduct all communication with staff, supervisor, program participants, and community in an effective, respectful, timely, and supportive manner.

Prepare and provide timely and accurate written reports, memoranda and other statistical and narrative information as required or requested.

Maintain organized and accessible record keeping and filing system.

Serve as advocate for EOCF and its families in the community.

Maintain confidentiality of program, staff and client information.
