Come join our team as a Spanish Interpreter! In this role you would provide interpreter and translation services for enrolled families who do not speak English as a primary language.

This position is ON-CALL and non-benefitted. There is no minimum guarantee of weekly hours, and has an hourly rate of $14.22. A flexible schedule to work days, evenings and weekends is required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Able to speak, read, and write fluently in English and Spanish.

Experience: Preference will be given to applicants with one year of experience providing paid interpreter services to adults in human/social services field.

Knowledge of
1. Basic rules and principles of English grammar, in both written and verbal forms.
2. Basic rules and principles of grammar, in both written and verbal forms, of a second language.
3. Computer software programs; Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).
4. Community resources available to families who do not speak English as a primary language or are hearing impaired.

Ability to
1. Communicate effectively with individuals - both in person and on the telephone - from diverse cultural, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
2. Work cooperatively with staff members and clients from diverse cultural, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
3. Maintain confidentiality of records and information.
4. Use the team approach to resolving problems or conflicts.
5. Demonstrate professional and effective written and verbal communication skills in English and second language; receive information and feedback in an understanding manner; use good judgment.
6. Attend appropriate staff meetings and training sessions as assigned.

Key Performance Area: Work Habits and Practices
1. Report to work on a regular basis, as scheduled. Interpreters must be available to work on an "on-call" basis, but are not to exceed the weekly hours assigned by their supervisor unless prior approval is given.
2. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

4. Continue to increase professional knowledge, skills and competencies in job related areas; incorporate and demonstrate new knowledge and skills on the job.
5. Attend and participate in staff meetings and local or out-of-town training as assigned.

8. Accept responsibility for seeking assistance and guidance when needed; incorporate constructive direction from supervisor to improve job performance.

Key performance area: Interpretive Services
1. Provide interpretive/translation services for staff and applicants in completing all requirements of the application and enrollment process.
2. Provide interpretive services for staff providing direct services to families.
3. Record pertinent data in applicant files including, verbal and written communications with families and staff prior to enrollment.
4. Follow tracking and recording procedures as assigned.
5. Drive to EOCF centers to interpret for enrollment activities, and to homes of parents to interpret for staff at home visits.

Key Performance Area: Communications
1. Assure continuous and timely flow of verbal and written information to and from other staff, supervisor, program participants, and community.
1. Conduct all communication with staff, supervisor, program participants, and community in an effective, respectful, timely, and supportive manner.
2. Prepare and provide timely and accurate written reports, memoranda and other statistical and narrative information as required or requested.
3. Serve as advocate for EOCF and its families in the community.
4. Maintain confidentiality of program, staff and client information.
